Ferrofluid, also known as "the magnetic liquid," is a liquid that contains iron oxide particles suspended in an oily liquid. It takes the form of a very slick oil. Ferrofluid has some unusual properties, such as acting as a liquid in the absence of a magnet while solidifying in the presence of a magnetic field.

Ferrofluid canbe used in various applications, including the lubrication mechanism, biomedical projects, and speaker heat conduction.

What's the history and origin of ferrofluid?

Ancient people discovered magnetism using magnetite's, which are naturally magnetized pieces of iron ore. In World War, In European industrial times, the need for information and recording of magnetic tape was introduced. Magnetic storage is made of a thin, magnetizable coating of particles of iron, later replaced withiron oxide,on a long, narrow strip of plastic film.

Numerous technological advancements resulted from solving space flight challenges during the Space Race. NASA invented a process for producing ferrofluid to develop liquid rocket fuel that couldbe drawn toward something in a weightless environment by using a magnetic field to overcome the lack of gravity that would naturally draw the liquid fuel down.

Ferrofluidswere first used in speaker construction in 70s. This is because ferrofluids can remove heat from the voice coil and reduce cone movement as temperatures rise, as ferrofluids become less magnetic.

What are the benefits of using ferrofluid in speakers?

The use of ferrofluid has some significant advantages for the speakers' performance. The most significant effect is on heat dissipation and power handling. Ferrofluid cools the speaker coils, which are sensitive to high temperatures. The thermal energy produced by the moving driver's strong vibration is transferred and dissipated by ferrofluid.

Magnets lose some of their power as their temperature rises. Keeping them cool ensures the drivers work efficiently and consistently produce power.

The ferrofluid also dampens driver vibrations, allowing you to put more power through the speakers before distortion occurs.

Which speaker should I buy?

At the end of the millennium, having a ferrofluid speaker respond to your music is more entertaining than having a vat of liquid chilling next to your speaker system!
